Dr. Jenna Bailey, Chief Historian and Director of Research
With a deep passion for storytelling and a distinguished career in historical documentary filmmaking, Dr. Jenna Bailey brings unmatched expertise, sensitivity, and artistry to every film she creates.
Having conducted hundreds of biography interviews around the world and led award-winning historical projects, she has dedicated her career to preserving stories with authenticity and depth. Projects in which Jenna has been the lead historian have won the National Council on Public History Outstanding Public History Award (2019), the Alberta Historical Resources Foundation Heritage Awareness Award (2018), the Oral History Association’s Elizabeth B. Mason Major Project Award (2018), the Oral History Association’s Oral History in Non-Print Format Award (2018), and the Governor General History Awards for Excellence in Community Programming (2015, 2018).
Documentaries directed by Jenna have been nominated for Alberta Film and Television Rosie awards including the “Best Production Reflecting Cultural Diversity” (2021) and the “Best Educational Production” (2021) and shown at film festivals across North America including NorthwestFest International Documentary Film Festival (2022), Toronto Black Film Festival (2022), Edmonton International Film Festival (2021), and Montreal International Black Film Festival (2021). Jenna’s latest film, “Brainstorm” will air on Telus Optik in the fall of 2025.
